You can register online at www.waysideinfo.com or you can come to Wayside and register.  Please check our web site for days, times and cost for all the programs we offer.

Swimming Programs

 

Infant Toddler Programs are set up so that a parent and child are in the water together with their instructor.  The Instructor will work on different skills in an encouraging environment so they will be able to progress through our Preschool and School Age swim lessons.

 

Water Babies gives parents and children the opportunity to enjoy and discover the water together under the supervision of their swim instructors. The instructors will work with parents and children and give them the information needed to have a good start in the water environment and a good stepping stone into our learn to swim programs. These are 30 minute classes. Water fun is encouraged using toys, games and floatation devices. Basic water skills such as supported glides and floats, arm movement, kicking and rolling over are covered. Aquatic Safety is emphasized. This class is for children between 6 and 18 months.

 

ParentToddler gives parents and children the opportunity to enjoy and discover the water together under the supervision of a swim instructors. The instructors will work with parents and children and give them the information needed to have a good start in the water environment and a good stepping stone into our learn to swim programs. These are 30 minute classes. This level will begin to encourage a child's independence and movement in response to visual and verbal cues. Basic aquatic safety is practices. This class is for children between 18 and 36 months

 

Preschool Programs

Beginner (Beg) This is an introductory swim class. Student will work on blowing bubbles, putting their face in the water, swimming on their front and back with a floatation device and entering and exiting the water. To progress to Advanced Beginner all swimmers must be able to put their face under water and swim at least 10 feet to an instructor with a floatation device.

 

Advanced Beginner (Adv. Beg) To participate in this class students must be able to put their face underwater and swim to an instructor at least 10 feet away on their front with a floatation device. To progress to the next level students must be able to perform 5 bobs, swim at least 15 feet using their arms and legs without a floatation device and be able to jump into 5 feet of water.

 

Intermediate Swimming (Int) Swimmers must be able to swim at least 10 yards on their own without a floatation device to participate in this class. Students will work on swimming underwater and picking up objects, increasing the distance they swim on their back and front to at least 10 yards and they will start to work on simple dives.

 

Advanced Preschool Swimming (APS) To participate in the class students must be able to swim at least 10 yards on their front and back. Students will work on Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Butterfly and Front dives.

 

School Age Swim Lessons are designed to give students a positive learning experience so they can progress successfully through the various levels. Children must be at least 5 years old to participate in Level 1 - Level 6. Level 1 and 2 are 30 minute classes and the Level 3 - Level 6 are 45 minute classes.

 

Level 1 Introduction to Water Skills is an introductory class to help students feel comfortable in the water and enjoy the water safely. Students will work on blowing bubbles, submerging their face, floating on their front and back with support, swimming on their own with a floatation device, increasing their comfort level in and around the water.

 

Level 2 Fundamental Aquatic Skills To participate in this class students must be able to perform the skills associated with Level 1. Students will work on submerging their entire head, retrieving objects from under the water, rhythmic breathing, front and back glides, floats with and without support, moving through the water on their own, treading water and increasing their comfort in and around the water.

 

Level 3 Stroke Development To participate in this class students must be able to perform the skills associated with Level 2. Students will work on coordinating the front and back craw for at least 10 yard, butterfly, treading water, retrieving objects from chest deep and feet first and headfirst entries into the water.

 

Level 4 Stroke Improvement To participate in this class students must be able to perform the skills associated with Level 3. Swimmers will work on increasing their endurance, improving previously learned strokes, Elementary Backstroke, Breaststroke and Sidestroke.

 

Level 5 Stroke Refinement To participate in this class students must be able to perform the skills associated with Level 4. Swimmers will work on refining all strokes and building endurance as well as introducing turns.

 

Level 6 To participate in this class students must be able to perform the skills associated with Level 5. Swimmers will work on refining strokes, improving efficiency, training skills, diving skills and Lifeguard skills.

 

Jr. Swim Team This program is for swimmers 5 and older who are thinking about being on a swim team. We will work on Starts, Freestyle (Front Crawl) and Backstroke. If swimmers are ready they will work on Breaststroke and Butterfly.

 

Jr Stroke Clinic is for swimmers 5 – 8.  This program is a step up in intensity and work from the Jr Swim Team program.  Swimmers will work on front and back crawl and work on increasing their endurance.  Swimmers who are ready will also work on Breaststroke and Butterfly.  This class meets 2 days a week for 5 weeks in the fall and spring.

 

Stroke Clinic is for swimmers 8 and older who would like to either get ready for the summer season or see what a team is like in a less demanding format.  All competitive skills will be covered.  This program meets 2 days a week for 5 weeks in the fall and spring.

 

Swim Team is for swimmers 5 – 18 who are looking to compete in a team environment this summer.  Swimmers 10 and under must be able to comfortably swim one or more lengths of the pool.  Swimmers 11 and older must be able to comfortably swim 2 or more lengths of the pool.  Swim Meets will start the end of June or early July.  This program meets Mon, and Wed afternoons and also on Fri mornings once school ends.

 

Teen Swim Lessons are designed so participants can learn to swim with other teens.

 

Beginner Teen Swim Lessons are for swimmers 12 – 18 years old who would like to learn to swim.  No swimming experience needed.  We will work on Floating on your front and back, Going under water to retrieve objects, swimming on your front and back and basic water safety. Once you successfully complete this class you can take Intermediate Teen Swim Lessons.

 

Intermediate Teen Swim Lessons are for swimmers 12 – 18 year old who would like to improve their swimming and be able to swim longer distances.  Swimmer must have successfully completed Beginner Teen Swim or equivalent to participate in this class.

During the course students will work on swimming front and back crawl up to 75 yards and basic water safety skills.
